I have been working in the mental health field since 2005 and have experience working with children and their families in a variety of settings including hospitals, residential treatment, and community based services. I am able to see children as young as 4 years old struggling with aggressive behaviors, anxiety, depression, or have a history of trauma. I am also trained in family and couples therapy.
Working with couples is what first interested me in this line of work. In my training I have learned how to improve emotional awareness within a couple to make them a stronger, more effective unit. Working for Forward Choices has allowed me to work more with couples and give them my undivided attention to critical issues such as marital conflict, partner abuse, and infidelity. My belief is the family works together as a system and I involve the family when possible in the treatment process. I focus on how the family communicates with one another and how these messages may be influencing undesired or negative behaviors. With young children I use play techniques and art therapy activities to build a positive relationship and gain insight as to how they are feeling. Relationships I build with my clients and coworkers are very important to me, as they are in my personal life. During my free time I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy being outside and playing with my dog; gardening and biking are also some of my favorite things to do. I love playing music, it’s something that I have been doing most of my life and I continue to do today.
